From 6 to 10 July, the traditional ELLS (EuroLeague for Life Sciences Universities) Summer School took place. This year, it was organised by the Warsaw University of Life Sciences (SGGW) under the title Sustainable Development in the Context of Contemporary Socio-Economic Transformation. The summer school followed its well-established format, combining thematic lectures delivered by academics from four universities with presentations of student projects, which participants had begun preparing before the event itself. The programme also included a field trip, which served as the basis for a final case study. The excursion first took participants to the municipality of Stare Babice, where the students explored issues related to the suburban area of Warsaw. It then continued to Kampinos National Park, where participants had the opportunity to try traditional bread-making methods at a local open-air museum. At the end of the summer school, the students presented their case studies to representatives of the municipality of Stare Babice, who welcomed their observations and suggestions during the subsequent discussion.
ELLS is an alliance of leading European universities specialising in management, food and natural resources, agricultural and forestry sciences, life sciences, veterinary sciences, and environmental sciences. The Czech University of Life Sciences Prague has been a member of the alliance since 2007. In 2026, ELLS was granted European University Alliance status by the European Commission under the European Universities initiative, marking a new stage of strategic cooperation in education, research, innovation, and the international mobility of students and staff. More detailed information is available in the article “ELLS, of which CZU Prague is a member, has been awarded European University Alliance status”.
